Q: I bought a TASCAM DR-40 with XLR mic inputs. I have a Sony lapel mic and it has a 3.5 mm connector. I am wondering if the ALZO Stereo Microphone Adapter Cord for Pro Camcorders will work for this combination.

A: The ALZO Stereo Microphone Adapter Cord for Pro Camcorders will allow for the connection of your SONY lapel mic to the TASCAM, but I cannot assure proper operation as I do not know if the SONY mic requires phantom power. If the mic is a dynamic or electret and does not require phantom power, it will most likely work with this combination. If the mic requires phantom power it may not work. In addition, a mono mic connected with the ALZO Stereo Microphone Adapter Cord for Pro Camcorders will record to only 1 channel, not both right and left. FYI, the ZOOM recorders H4N, H5 and H6 all have 3.5 mm mic inputs in addition to the XRL mic inputs.

Alzo Stereo Microphone XLR Adapter Cord

I usually do not write a review of products I purchase; the reason is that I always research into the products very extensively to consider the pros and cons before purchasing them. But this Alzo Stereo Microphone XLR Adopter will compel me to write a review for the way I felt about my purchase. At the time of my purchase, there was no review available so I trusted my instincts and pulled the trigger. I said to myself, after all, this does not cost much to worry about if it fails. I have tried this XLR adapter on my cameras (Panasonic AG-HMC80, Sony HXR-MC2500, canon EOS T5i, EOS 70D and 5D mkIII) but it did does not work. I plugged into Sound Devices Mix-PreD field audio mixer and Beatchtek DXA-SLR Pro adapter and played with the settings for hours but it did now work. I have very good working knowledge in audio gadgets and so this surprised me a lot. This XLR adapter is sitting on my computer desk right now and I don't know what to do with it. Am not sure if I got a faulty version of Alzo XLR. I am now waiting to hear back from Alzo about his comment on the functionality of this gadget. To me, I think, I have thrown my money away. As matter of fact, I have purchased about 3 or 4 products from Alzo, this is the only one gadget that am not satisfied with. All the rest of the products are excellent and I love using them.
