Improve the Sound Quality of Your Smartphone Recordings with a Microphone

March 26, 2018 1 min read

Smartphones have become the all-in-one solution for our audio-visual and communication needs, combining calling, texting, picture taking, audio and video recording, music and movie streaming, and many other applications. Common to the majority of smartphones is the level of sound quality, which is acceptable but not great. The built-in microphones are omnidirectional, picking up sounds from all directions equally, an effect that is sometimes desired, depending on your recording objective. For directional, more focused audio pickup, we recommend adding a microphone to your cellphone, like the Comica CVM-V30 Shotgun Microphone or the CVM-VM10 II Compact Shotgun microphone. Combined with the ALZO metal rig and the ALZO 3.5 mm TRRS Mic-Headphone break-out cord, you'll turn your smartphone into a small recording facility. The break-out cord allows you to monitor audio playback without having to unplug the microphone cord. If you wish to monitor audio while recording video, you need a pro video recording app like Filmic Pro, Open Camera, or Cinema FV5.
