Comments/Reviews:
Solid bracket, but not one size
fits all...
A good solid bracket with a lot of attention to
detail. Hardly any slop at the joints.
Pros: Spring tension instead of friction on the pivot keeps the flash
in place. Fold out arm improves the stability when placing the camera on a
flat surface. Although it looks strange in the picture, the way the vertical
pillar kicks out in front of the camera makes it easy for the right hand to
hold the camera's grip; much better clearance than brackets that just sit at
the right side of the camera. Some have complained about weight, but all
things are relative... after adding the weight of a flash w/batteries and
extra batteries for the motor drive, the weight of the bracket is not a
large percentage of the total.
Cons: Doesn't come with a hot shoe mount, because they assume you are
using a dedicated flash cord with a tripod socket. Has no horizontal
adjustment for the mounting bolt, cameras with a tripod socket way off
center will have problems centering the flash over the lens, especially if
the tripod socket is way off to the right (when viewed from the back).
Vertical adjustment could be a little longer, but it's okay as it is. The
flash is a bit forward than in most brackets and can affect the balance
depending on your set up (if you use the optional hot shoe mount, it will
kick the flash back a bit).
FYI: I was able to get around the problem with my motor drive tripod socket
(Minolta MD-1) being way off center by using an accessory (DM-Accesories,
part #GEN-SHIM) designed to shift a camcorder off a tripod platform to allow
the loading of tape while still mounted. You can order it without the
alignment pin. - R.Chan, Amazon.com
Strengths:
Well built, easy use, flip/vertical capability
Weaknesses:
Doesn't include essential parts, not as full-featured as others, doesn't
collapse
Summary:
Overall like this as a bracket. Downside was figuring out I needed the
FT-Jr. flash shoe mount as well for my Canon/Sigma flash.
The AT Anti-Twist bar works with it as well, though a battery grip on a
camera requires the AT bar be removed. I haven't had issues with battery
grip use via a 30D otherwise.
A decent flash bracket and a good value. Build quality is better than I'd
expected. Just make sure you buy appropriate shoe mount at the least.
Couldn't use otherwise. - poind, PriceGrabber.com
PERFECTION
"This bracket allows
you to rotate the camera such that yourshutter hand is at the top. I can
operate my camera as ifthe bracket were not even mounted. It is compact and
wellconstructed. This is the last bracket you will ever buy fora D200. I
imagine it would work equally well with a D50, 70,80, 40, Canon 30D, 5D etc.
Love it." - Scott, buzzillions.com
