ALZO 2000 PORTRAIT STUDIO SETUP & USAGE

On these pages we demonstrate several lighting configurations with our ALZO 2000 Continuous Portrait Studio Kit and our lovely model. The different configurations consists of 2 or 3 lights, including the "key", "fill" and "hair" light. The "key" light is a softbox. The fill light is either a reflector or an ALZO 2000 with barndoors, shinning through a disk diffuser. The camera is set to ISO 200. ISO's lower than 200 are not recommended with these lights.

This page illustrates a 2 light configuration.

2 Lights with Reflector Fill
  • 1 - ALZO 2000 softbox Key light
  • 1 - ALZO 42" 5-in-1 Reflector kit
  • 1 - Mini-Spot  Hair Light

Because we were shooting close face shots with this lighting setup, we used a black paper background for a contemporary image.

The softbox "key" light (to the right) is about 5 feet from the model and set to just above head height. The Mini-Spot hair light (hidden by the softbox) is also about 5 feet away from the subject and raised to about 7 feet. The hair light effect is controlled by positioning the light.

The ALZO 5-in-1 Reflector/Diffuser Kit is used as our fill light, reflecting light from the Key light onto the subject. We assembled the kit with the white reflector surface and positioned it on the left of our model. We moved the reflector between 3-6 feet from the model for different effects. We also adjusted the tilt angle of the reflector to control the shadow to our liking.

In image 1 and 2 we created different lighting effects by moving the position of the model relative to the lights.

In image 3 we removed the reflector fill creating more drama in the portrait. Image 3 was softened with JASC Paint Shop Pro 9 "Soft Lens" filter.

Typical exposure settings for these shots were f 4.5 @ 1/125 second, ISO set to 200. The camera was the FUJI S7000.

We feel that the ALZO 2000 portrait studio light kit puts flash lighting in the category of old out of date technology. Click here for more details
