Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It is a very good tripod, lightweight and amazing for tall people who dont have to bend down anymore. It's also not very expensive. good shipping service and item arrived in a very well packed package.

Pros:
-Setup is fairly fast and easy. Unit seems VERY stable for weight once it is set up.
-Bubble levels on body and head make it easy to set unit to a level position if needed.
-Reasonably light weight.
-Quick release camera mount, w/ available extra plates is handy.

Cons:
-Tilt / pan movement is tricky to get set to balance between loose enough for smooth operation and enough friction to hold setting in place. It is far from the claimed "fluid" action.
-Carry bag is very difficult to use because it is so short, unit must be *totally* collapsed and exactly positioned to get into bag and zip bag - an extra 1/2" would have made life much easier.
-Center post not reversible for "extra low altitude" shooting.
-Packaging not very sturdy, first unit purchased arrived w/ bent pan handle (but was replaced promptly w/ no hassles)

Best Uses: In addition to photography, will be using w/ Laser Rangefinder to provide stable reference point while making measurements w/ triangulation that aren't reachable directly.
